Who doesn’t love decorating the Christmas tree? For me, it’s an annual reminder of many of the things that mean so much to me. I have ornaments I made when I was in the second grade, a cardinal painted on a goose egg made by a dear friend years ago (fragile but still intact), a cap and diploma when I got my doctorate, and many mementos of trips from all over the world including last year’s blue footed booby from the Galapagos.
Two years ago, when we were in London we went to the National Gallery. There was a special exhibit I didn’t know about and it was Sorolla. What a wonderful surprise. It took my breath away. I had no idea it was going to be there.
I had to peruse the gift shop (of course) and found two ornaments I knew I had to add to my collection. Van Gogh and Monet. Now, when I decorate my tree I think of both of them and of course Sorolla and the joy of stumbling upon this unexpected treat.
