This morning, it was -12 degrees at my place in Gilmanton. The golden morning light was just as intense as the flames in the woodstove, both warming me up in their own ways. There are so many paintings of morning light, and I never get tired of looking at them or trying to paint them.

When I started painting years ago, I had no clue I was jumping into a lifelong learning journey. If you're thinking about picking up painting, don't be scared. Grab a brush. Move some paint around on a canvas. Learn how to see as an artist sees. It really is different. Take a lesson or two or more. Join me at www.artisticroots.com for an absolute beginner's guide to oil painting. All materials included. Just dive in and start your adventure. Winter's a perfect time to try something new.
