Common Elements

Consider a few common elements—a mountain, a rural building, some trees, and a field. These elements have been painted by thousands of artists, yet each painting is distinct. How does each artist infuse their own essence into their work? Some of it is intentional, but much of it naturally emerges.

This is likely because we all perceive the world uniquely. Our physical ability to see colors varies, and our minds interpret what we see differently, even when observing the same thing. We know that eyewitness accounts of events can vary greatly. Our right brain interprets images differently than our left, and artists learn to tune out the left and embrace the more creative right side.

As I evolve as an artist, I am focusing more on how I express what I intend to convey as I push paint around , dance with color, and honor values. I trust it enriches my viewers as much as it enriches me.
